i usually recommend that 5-10 gal are used for male bettas, but i have in the past kept them in much larger tanks without any problems. my advice would be to aquascape defined territories so that he will be able to pick one. might work, might not.

Do you mean 30g for one? That may be a bit large, as KK says 5-10. When I kept Fighters I had one and three guppies in a 10g.

I think a 30g would be a bit much for a betta although I do keep one in a 20g. He has few tanks mates. Just a couple of platies. He does well. I know a few people that do keep a betta in a large tank and it works for them. I'm sure it has to do with it's tank mates. If you do try to put one in the 30g be sure he has plaenty of places to hide and use real plants or silk plants. No hard deco as it will rip his fins to pieces.

I think if you keep other fish with him in a 30 gallon he will be VERY happy.Thats not even too big for just one.I mean remeber they originate in LARGE rice paddies. So he should be VERY happy
