hi everyone, im new to fishkeeping and am just researchin my fish options. I have a 400Litre tank and am thinking either i will get one flowerhorn cichlid to grow big and beautiful, or another highly coloured but undyed fish to be my pet.
other option is a community tank with my staple fish being golden bristlenoses, a mix of dwarf gouramis (with ample plants to break sightlines) albino and coloured kribensis, blue and white mollies/platies, panda or other small black and white cories. and additional options to add depending on what i fall for first or availability... glass catfish, glowlight tetra, dwarf rainbow, red rosy barb, small black and white pleco such as king tiger pleco or flash pleco (unsure of whats available down here) rams, upside down cat, red rainbow and potentially very pretty male guppies but so far theyre not my favourites.
i have researched heaps and am aware that i have some non compatible choices on this list but if i end up with barbs i will avoid the delicate rams and etc as im well aware they would not work together even in a large tank.
besides being unsure if i can get a flowerhorn in new zealand for a reasonable price im just torn between all my options of fish types and tank setups.
so has anyone owned a flowerhorn or seen one up close? would they make a worthy fish to keep as a single fish? also so far the info i have found only says they are man induced cross breeds but unlike the blood parrots i hear nothing of actual defects that cause them harm or anything awful like that.
as a starting out fish fanatic, what choice do you think i should go for???
also any molly/platy people out there? if i have only one colour molly/platy and breed them, will i get a mix group of colours or will i get just white ones like the parents.
thanks for your help in advance.
