I would try to block off any air holes in your lid with sponge or something like that to try and stop any more flys getting into your tank water. As for the worms in your filter i'd try to CAREFULLY clean them off the sponge in old tank water. But i don't think u will get them all, probably have to live with it until they become black flys themselfs.

bar the black fly that bites, no i don't think so, they might put some extra bio-load on your tank. but on the plus side they should make a tasty treat for your fish. P.s check your blue platy post

Someone told me this in another forum. Do you think it is true? Where can I get it?
"Some of us have to culture worms and work hard. And you guys get them effortlessly. But seriously if you treat the tank with formadlehyde(1 ml per 10 gallons) it should clear up your infestation without damaging you fish. Although it may kill your snails. I have never done it with snails but have had great success with just fish only tanks."

I threw out the old filter and put in a new one. I also took it all apart and cleaned it. Whatever the bugs are, you just killed off your filter bacteria so you'll have a cycle going soon. High ammonia, nitrites, nitrates! Take tests of those three every day and if ammonia goes above 0.5, do a 20% water change, if nitrites go above 2.5, do a 20% water change, if nitrAtes go above 50, do a 20% water change.

have to agree with kittykat on that one. not a good thing to change all of the filter all at once.

u could try putting small amount of salt in your water for a short period of time. Black fly larvae might not be able to stand salt. It would be safer than putting in formadlehyde
