A friend mailed me these the other day, I just had to share them  The clouds are called Mammatus clouds. They do not precede a tornado, or fortell a storm, but are formed when the air is already saturated with rain droplets and/ or ice crystals and begins to sink. The worst of the storm is usually over when these kind of clouds are seen. They are quite rare, but really beautiful.

They must be rare, I have never seen anything like it, I showed the pictures to the ball'n'chain. She stayed out in johannesburg for years and she's never seen them before either. They are stunning looking clouds. thanks for sharing ORCA
