Discus or angels won't be a good choice to go with neons because both like to hunt smaller fish.

ok thats not good :crys: from what i have read the was only one that said that, strange yet they all come from the same areas, now im going to have to rethink what the hell to put in the tank. certainly not getting rid of what i have already so back to the drawing board. :arg:

I have seen a lot of people put neons in with discus but im not really sure if they eat them or not but angels would love nothing more than a munch on a few neons.

i have seen a few discus tanks with a good size shoal of hatchet fish,i think it looks good, only thing is some people prefer something a bit more lively than hatchets

just a thought on what you said karen, the neons i have are quite big they 12mths plus old and still have 25 of them. the angels are going to be fairly small when i get them so the neons will still grow. or am i clutching at straws? ??

well maybe you will be ok then if the angels are young and small enough they may be ok,what i would do is introduce your angels and neons at the same time to the new tank aleast that way both your angels and neons will be new to your tank so there may not be any aggresion and your angels will be small enough to grow up with the neons and the angels might forget the neons as being food. Its totally up to yourself if you want to try it.

I would like to say that i have fully grown neons in with small angels. Never knew that angels will hunt neons when i got them. But that said i have not lost any neons since the angels went into the tank. Nor have they showed any aggressive behavior to the neons.

I think it really does depend on the angels to be honest with you they are cichlids after all and can turn nasty in a second.Ive kept angels and neons together twice the first time i had no problems at all the second time they ate my neons thats why i think it depends on the fish.

I think it also depends on the numbers of angels u keep as well, my angels aren't hostile to any other tanks mate except the other angels. My next door neighbor has kept a single female angel for almost ten years. And its one big ornery fish. She can't put any other smaller fish into the tank with it because the angel kills them within days.
