fancy or common?
commons will live for over 25 years and grow to 25-30+cm
fancy live for 15+ years and grow to 23-25+ cm
unfortunately too many people keep goldfish in unsuitable aquaria so not only do they not acheve their full size, but also have shorter lifespans. i have been very lucky in seeing goldfish of about 30 years of age and that have acheved their full size while i was living in Japan where these fish are respected (although very commonly available and often for free). fully adult specimens will tend to change to pure white at about 17-20 years of age.

They do really live a long time if kept in the right conditions.

Goldfish are neat. I used to have 2 of them. One died, then the next one died the day after.

My goldfish were 29 cents, and still only about 2 inches long. Will they ever get bigger?

for goldfish (unless you want to stunt them which is immoral and causes health problems) always keep them in a tank which is at least 5+ times longer then the fish and 1.5+ times wider witha height of at least 1ft
