Hi kelly i wouldn't go for a common plec, they grow far too big,a bristlenose plec are good like what i have ,shame if you lived near me you could have one for free bristlenose grow to 5 to 8 inches (depends on exact species)

My common plec is 9 inches and i think its about two years old, i got it from my next door neighbor because it had been fighting in her tank with her original 12-13 inches common plec. Common plecs are very territorial not a good idea to have more than one in a small tank. Even one of these would out grow a 20g tank in no time. A large tank might be different as there would be more space and the plecs could have there own territories within the large tank.

I am not a lover of Common Plecos. They produce more waste than than they do good but I am a Catfish lover. Best to get yourself a couple of small fancy plecos. Some of the Panaques are stunning. Flash Panaguea and Blue Panaques are special. Some of the Ancistrus are really cool too. I have a Gold Tiger pleco,a Sultan,Blue Panaque.Royal Pleco and 1 Bristle nose all in 1 tank and they get along fine. The Gold Nuggets are the bizz too. I sold mine because I taught the Central would eat them but they have never touched any of my plecos.
