Would rocks from outside in my garden be ok to go in my tank?

simple answer to that is NO. dont take a chence on them they could and prob will be infected with all sorts of garden ferts etc, the only safe way is to get the rocks from your lfs.
if you where to take a gamble on them then i would surgest leaving them in a bowl of water for a good few weeks and monitor any changes in the water stats. but personaly i would NOT take the chance.

For the beginner i would agree with mralgae absolutely NO, but if u know about different types of rocks and know what minerals they contain and what affects the minerals have on your water. And u are certain theres no chemical contamination. It might be ok to use rocks u find from outside. If u do u are taking a big risk and u could poison your fish.
