Which substrate have you used and which do you find better?

I've used a few different types but generally prefer a medium sized basic gravel. The "river stone" type one (black-brown-white).
I do really like the look of sand and fine gravel interms of how the fish act in it, but I find it's just easier with my current fish with basic gravel so I mostly use it. With my kribs I also mix crushed coral peices in but it blends in well (looks wise) with the standard stuff. Having similar substraite in most tanks for me also means it doesn't matter if any gravel is transfered from tanks through moving stuff/fish around or if I'm seeding a tank with gravel from another to help cycle it.

I really like sand but i hear its very hard to keep clean, i have small stones in my tanks and i think it looks good.

I have sand in mine, its hard to clean and i loose some everytime i do a water change
