news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/4768549.stmFrom the NIRAH site: NIRAH is planning to build one of the world’s largest controlled water environments on a 250 acre (100 hectare) site in Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom. Construction will start in 2007 and complete in 2011. The facility will house up to 20,000 species from the most threatened wetland habitats in the world. Its 200 exhibits will contain up to 20 million gallons of water, with varying degrees of salinity to replicate natural environments. NIRAH’s habitats will include tropical and mountain rivers, inland lakes, estuaries, reefs, and flooded forests, all of which will contain as full a complement as possible of the species who live in them in the wild. They will be open to the public as part of a world-class visitor destination that expresses the concept of Living Water.
