What carpy says is right but remember to turn off the heater and filter first. Also when doing a water change its good to do a gravel vac which keeps the gravel nice and clean Also when you do add more water back in try and keep it at the same temperature as your tank water and add your conditioner.Any other questions ask away. I forgot to say the picture i added is a syphon which you do your gravel vac with.

Ive made a big mistake i have done a water change before but what i did was empty the whole tank of water take out the gravel put it in a basin and wash it then id put the gravel back in and them refill the tank with new cold water and i never added water conditioner and then i just put the fish back in.Would that have killed my angels and catfish?

fishgirl, Depends how many fish you have, but I would recommend 20% weekly. When you vacuum, do a different area each water change as the gravel has good bacteria in it.
