Do you know how fancy guppies happened? Inbreeding.
It happens & although in the wild is much less common then in tanks, 10-15 generations of inbreeding will not usually cause any problems, although it is a good idea to bring in new blood every few years (I try to do this once a year if at all possible for all my breeding fish).

Incest, joking but what KK says is true. I have seen what happens when the gene pool for humans is restricted. When I was down at Tristan da cunha ( I was a engineer on a crayfish factory ship) the interbreeding made everybody look like they were brothers and sisters (no jokes), at that time there were 6 family surnames and the population was 223 (if my memory serves me correctly). On more than one occasion I was introduced to a person and would say oh I've already met the person and would get these strange looks. Sorry a bit off subject.

of course it's not OK and it does matter, but there's not much you can do to prevent it and by introducing new blood regularily you can discourage inbreeding
