I like using fertilizer in pellet form. Using liquid fertilizer is a waste of time if you have carbon in your filter.

i beleive you should only use carbon now & again for cleaning out the likes of medication if you have plants in the tank as it strips the water of nutriants that the plants need to grow. liquid ferts will get swollowed up by the carbon. but i know some people do use carbon in planted tanks and dont seem to have any probs.

I prefer to have carbon in my filter, it keeps the water crystal clear. I did have a alot of trouble trying to grow plants at first. until i start using the fertilizer pellets. My plants look great now before they would maybe last a couple of weeks then start too die off. Especially the red one's. I think it was a lack of iron in my subtrate that was the cause.

i believe iron is one of the most important nutriants for plants. what fert tabs do you use cos im trying to get plants sorted. sounds like you have.

"Root boosta" The site I purchased them from is www.aquatic-plantation.co.uk They also sell "Root boosta fe" pellets, they have extra iron in them, Site say's you use them for red plants.
