pardon the quality of the photos, but i think you can see what happens when you mess things up, this is the result of to much iron in the water when i messed up the oter week. i am waiting for delivery of potassium permanganate of line from england before i can strip and clean the tank of the problem.

The following is my opinion based on my personal experience.
POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE DOES NOT GET RID OF ALGAE.
In keeping with my name MRALGAE most people know I love to grow this stuff. NOT.
I as usual had a problem with algae, through my own fault and mistake this time, so decided to try a different approach to get rid of it. After a lot of reading I wanted to do the potassium permanganate (p.p) route and tried to get it with great difficulty here in Ireland and ended up getting it sent from England off the net.
So I stripped the tank and followed instructions I had found on the net by another aquarist.
What I ended up with was a waste of a day; red leaves which are blacker than red and still had the algae. So I reverted to a bleach dip (of which I had used before) on them with better results with this than with p.p. I have or know I am going to loose 4 of the plants because they are so bad and don’t think I will be using it again even after all the trouble of getting it in the first place.
I would like to know if anybody has used p.p. with good results or did you find the same as me? IT DIDN’T WORK!

Ive used it quite a bit , only as a mild antiseptic in treating fungus diseases and some of the parasitic ones. and to give the plants a clean before putting them in the tank ,Ive also heard of the method that you have done ,to kill blanket weed and some other algae, i know that potassium will kill vallis, and some other plants i think its more of using the right quantity to do the job ,how is your tank know is it up and running ok?

zoomo this is what happens when you mess up! as luck was with me the mistakes i made didnt effect the fish, or that could have been a disaster.

everyone gets it in some form over the years of fish keeping. more so with planted set ups. if you plan on keeping fish only you shoudnt have that much trouble. BUT it can still bloom if you dont keep up with regular water changes and checking water stats.
