I'd say go for it, beautiful fish, easy to care for, not fussy eaters, and breed pretty easily. buy 6 juvies and when you get a breeding pair return the others.

When buying Blue Acaras be very careful. A lot of LFS will mislable them and what you will get are Green Terrors. GT's are beautiful but, not very nice.

kelly, I know for a fact that GT get nasty with age. I 'm not sure aobut the BA but, it stands to reason that they would/could.

They are fairly hardy and don't grow excessively large. That's fully true and pretty common, they can look similar as juvi's so some LFS'S mistake what they have and the two species can also be hybridized and BA x GT can be hard to pick when small. Acara's like many others can be aggressive when kept as a breeding pair and you can get the odd aggressive single specimen but as a whole they are more toward the bottom of the aggression scale when looking at the common New World cich's. They're a pretty cool fish

In my experience Blue Acaras are peaceful cichlids. I have kept them before. The are peaceful towards other cichlids but will eat Tetras and Mollys. They are well able to hold there own and can live in very dirty conditions.
